Quarterfinals set for 2023 Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Basketball Championships in Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The 2023 Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will conclude this weekend at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on the campus of Wofford College with 10 games in three days. 
 
The championship quarterfinals will be held on Friday, March 3 with the women at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and the men at 6 and 8:30 p.m. The semifinals will be played on Saturday, March 4 with the women at 12:30 and 2:45 p.m. followed by the men at 5:15 and 7:30 p.m. The championship games will be held on Sunday, March 5 with the women playing at 1 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.

The top six teams remain alive in the 2023 Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Women’s Basketball Championship. The six teams remaining feature 14 of the 15 All-Conference selections which includes the Player, Defensive Player and Freshman of the year which will be released tomorrow morning.

The first quarterfinal matchup will pit No. 4 Emmanuel against No. 5 Chowan while No. 3 UNC Pembroke will square off against No. 6 Mount Olive. The Chowan/Emmanuel winner will face top seeded Belmont Abbey while No. 2 Emmanuel will face the UNC Pembroke/Mount Olive winner. The Lions swept the Hawks in their two regular-season meetings this season, winning the Dec. 17 meeting in Franklin Spring, Georgia, 63-52, before winning at home on Jan. 28, 63-50. The Braves and Trojans split the season series with each team winning at home. Mount Olive won on Nov. 22, 57-47, while UNC Pembroke won on Jan. 25, 58-42. 

An upset in the second round of the 2023 Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Men’s Basketball Championship saw No. 8 Mount Olive join the other top seeds in advancing to Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium for the quarterfinals. Twelve of the 15 All-Conference selections including all three major award winners, which will be released tomorrow, will be participating this weekend.

Mount Olive will face No. 4 Belmont Abbey, the defending tournament champions, in the first quarterfinal while No. 6 Converse faces No. 3 Barton in the final game on Friday. The Crusaders won the only meeting against the Trojans this season, a 96-86 home victory. The Bulldogs and Valkyries split their season series with each winning at home. Barton won 75-66 on Dec. 17 while Converse won 71-66 on Jan. 21.

The cost for admission is $10 per person and is available for the entire day of competition. Children ages 12 and under and Conference Carolinas students with a valid student ID will be admitted for free. Cash will not be accepted at the venue. General admission all-tournament passes are available for $25 while daily VIP passes, which includes access to hospitality and courtside or equivalent seating, are available for $30 per day.
