Kadence Sheppard of UNC Pembroke and Rilee Jones of Barton Earn Softball Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Kadence Sheppard of UNC Pembroke and Rilee Jones of Barton were selected as the Conference Carolinas weekly award winners for softball for the week ending March 12.
Sheppard was selected as the Player of the Week, while Jones earned Pitcher of the Week accolades.
A freshman outfielder from Laurinburg, North Carolina, Sheppard helped the Braves to a sweep of Fayetteville State on Saturday, March 11 as she hit .667 (6-for-9) with a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage. She drove in four runs and scored three times in the wins. In game one she went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and one stolen base. She wrapped up the day with a 4-for-5 game with two doubles, four RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases. She didn’t strike out in nine plate appearances.
A right-handed pitcher for the Bulldogs, Jones recorded a no-hitter in an 8-0 win over Kutztown on Friday, March 10. The senior from Norfolk, Virginia struck out eight and allowed just one baserunner on a hit-by-pitch to lead off the third inning. It was the second complete game of the season for Jones.
