Katy Neubert of King Chosen 2022-23 Winner of Prestigious Murphy Osborne Award
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Katy Neubert of King has been named the 2022-23 Murphy Osborne Award winner.
The Murphy Osborne Award is Conference Carolinas' Outstanding Senior Student-Athlete Award.
A senior from Johnson City, Tennessee, Neubert is a member of the King cross country and track & field teams. She owns a perfect 4.0 grade-point average as a Cell and Molecular Biology major. She is also minoring in Psychology.
A member of Chi Alpha Sigma, which is the National College Athlete Honor Society, Neubert has won numerous academic awards during her time at King and in Conference Carolinas. The 2021 and 2022 Conference Carolinas Cross Country Elite 23 Award Presented by McGriff Insurance Services winner, Neubert was also a 2022 College Sports Communicators Academic All-American. Neubert is also an Elite 23 Award Presented by McGriff Insurance Services winner in outdoor track & field along with being the 2022 Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athlete of the Year in indoor track & field. A multiple time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District choice, Neubert has won numerous academic awards at King such as the Eula Cosby Coffey Award in the Basic Sciences (Highest Class Average in General Physics) and the Sarah Katherine Stamper Award in Biology (Highest Class Average in General Biology).
Neubert is also incredibly active on the King campus where she serves as a Resident Assistant, a Toxicology Research Student and a Pre-Health Professionals Representative. A general biology and general and organic chemistry teaching assistant, Neubert is a Snider Honors Program student at King. In addition, Neubert has also volunteered at ECHO Global Farms in Fort Myers, Florida and at the RAM Pop-Up Clinic in Hazard, Kentucky and Emory, Virginia. She has also spent time as a first-grade reading buddy at Anderson Elementary in Bristol, Tennessee.
In addition to all of her fantastic work in the community and in the classroom, Neubert has won numerous Conference Carolinas individual titles during her time at King. She was the distance medley relay champion at the 2022 Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship and the 800-meter champion in both the 2020 and 2021 Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships. The school record holder in the 800 meters, Neubert has claimed multiple all-conference honors and has served as the women’s cross country and track & field team captain.
Student-Athletes for the Murphy Osborne Award are nominated by their institutions based on their academic, athletic and service accomplishments. The Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) from all Conference Carolinas institutions submit institutional nominations and votes are cast by the FARs.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be a December or May graduating senior or a first-year graduate student completing athletic eligibility at the same institution as undergraduate matriculation. The student-athlete must be a full-time student at the time of nomination, must have been a full-time student at the member school for at least two years and must be a starter or important substitute in a conference sport.
The award is named for longtime educator and college and university administrator Dr. Murphy Osborne.
