Makayla Cuthbertson of Francis Marion and Maddie Edwards of Emmanuel Earn Softball Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Makayla Cuthbertson of Francis Marion and Maddie Edwards of Emmanuel were selected as the Conference Carolinas weekly award winners for softball for the week ending March 19.
Cuthbertson was selected as the Player of the Week, while Edwards earned Pitcher of the Week accolades.
A junior infielder from Indian Trail, North Carolina, Cuthbertson batted .619 (13-for-21) in six wins for the Patriots this week. She scored 11 runs and drove in eight more with two doubles, two triples and three stolen bases. She had a .905 slugging percentage and a .652 on-base percentage. She hit safely in all six contests and had at least two in four games highlighted by a 4-for-4 against Southern Wesleyan on March 18 as she scored three times and drove in a run in the contest.
A junior right-handed pitcher from Lakeland, Florida, Edwards went 2-0 on the week with a 0.50 ERA over 14 innings with 17 strikeouts and two walks. She tossed a complete-game shutout against Chowan on March 17 with three hits, two walks and seven strikeouts. She capped the week with another complete-game gem against Chowan on March 18 as she allowed one run on one hit with 10 strikeouts. The opponent hit just .089 against her on the week. Edwards currently leads the league in ERA (1.82) and opponent batting average (.161).
