KJ Jones II of Emmanuel and Drew Richards of UNC Pembroke Earn NABC Division II All-District Recognition

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has announced the 2022-23 NABC Division II All-District Teams and District Coaches of the Year. KJ Jones II of Emmanuel was named to the Southeast First Team while Drew Richards of UNC Pembroke was named Southeast Coach of the Year. 

The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division II.

Jones, who led Emmanuel to the 2023 Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Men’s Basketball Championship title and an NCAA Division II tournament appearance, continues to lead NCAA Division II in points per game (26.2) and is third in total points (761). The Conference Carolinas Player of the Year also finished the year seventh in Conference Carolinas in rebounding at 7.2 per game. The junior from Atlanta, Georgia shot at a 50.5 percent (214-for-424) clip and ranked second in the league in free throw percentage (.868) and seventh in 3-point percentage at 41.7 percent (58-for-139). He was also eighth in the league in assists per game (3.5) and seventh in steals at 1.7 per contest. He was also named Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) All-Region and All-American and is on the Bevo Francis Top 25 watch list.

Richards led the Braves to a 26-4 record and its second straight Conference Carolinas regular season crown and NCAA Division II national tournament appearance. UNCP paced Conference Carolinas in eight statistical categories including scoring defense at 67.2 points allowed per game. The Braves also ranked second among more than 300 NCAA Division II squads in rebounding margin at plus 10.2 per contest.
