Belmont Abbey Duo Highlights 2022-23 Conference Carolinas Men’s Bowling All-Conference Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Conference Carolinas released its 2022-23 men's bowling awards ahead of the start of the 2023 Men's Bowling Championship which begins on Friday, March 24 in Gastonia, North Carolina.
Caleb Huggins of Belmont Abbey was named Bowler of the Year while teammate Gabriel Scott took home Freshman of the Year accolades. Joey Kendrick of Emmanuel was named Coach of the Year.
The 2022-23 all-conference awards were chosen by the league's head coaches.
A sophomore from Gaston, South Carolina, Huggins finished the regular season with a 19.501 scoring average over 703 total frames with a 49.4 percent strike percentage on the year. He averages nine or more pins on the first ball 68.9 percent of the time and has two top-25 finishes on the season with a high average of 217.8 at the MSC Brandon Burns Memorial. Huggins earned Conference Carolinas men's bowling Bowler of the Week honors on Jan. 18.
A native of Tazwell, Virginia, Scott averaged 18.548 pins over 325 frames this season with a 45.2 percent strike percentage and a 89.9 percent single pin spare percentage. He has a high average of 214 pins done at the Bowlero Southern Collegiate Classic. Scott was a two-time Conference Carolinas men's bowling Freshman of the Month as he won the award in January and February.
Kendrick, in his ninth season at Emmanuel, has the Lions ranked 32nd in the latest United States Bowling Congress rankings and a conference-best 19.272 team scoring average over 3,950 total frames.
