Lincoln Memorial Duo Highlights 2022-23 Conference Carolinas Women's Bowling All-Conference Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Conference Carolinas released its 2022-23 Women's Bowling awards ahead of the start of the 2023 Women's Bowling Championship which begins on Friday, March 24 in Gastonia, North Carolina.
Lincoln Memorial’s Haley Powell was named Bowler of the Year and teammate Madison Ferguson captured Freshman of the Year honors. Rich Gucwa, Jr. of Belmont Abbey was named Coach of the Year.
The 2022-23 all-conference awards were chosen by the league's head coaches.
A sophomore from Belvidere, Tennessee, Powell finished the regular season with the top individual scoring average in Conference Carolinas at 19.782 per frame over 911 frames and has the second-best individual strike percentage at 47.6 percent in 916 attempts. She knocks down nine pins or more on 72.9 percent of the first balls she throws with an average pinfall total of 8.980, which both lead the conference. In eight events this season she recorded five top-25 finishes which includes three top-10 places and a fifth-place finish at the Bearcat Roto Grip Open. She was also a three-time Conference Carolinas Women’s Bowler of the Week.
Ferguson also was a Conference Carolinas Women’s Bowler of the Week and captured the October Freshman of the Month award. A native of Vandalia, Illinois, Ferguson finished the regular season fifth in individual scoring average (19.427) and fourth in strike percentage (44.7 percent). She also ranked third in first ball “9+” percentage at 70.4 percent. In seven events this season she recorded five top-25 finishes highlighted by a sixth-place finish at the Colonial Lanes Classic.
Gucwa, Jr. led the Crusaders to four top-10 finishes this season and saw three individuals record seven top-25 finishes. The team has a 16.631 average per frame over four NCAA events this season totaling 2,600 frames.
