Chianel Asoburuenwu and Mary Brigid Keck of Mount Olive Earn Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Chianel Asoburuenwu and Mary Brigid Keck of Mount Olive were selected as the Conference Carolinas weekly award winners for women’s indoor track and field for the week ending March 5.
Asoburuenwu was selected as the Track Athlete of the Week, while Keck earned Field Athlete of the Week accolades.
A freshman sprinter from Raleigh, North Carolina, Asoburuenwu was the headliner for the Trojans after setting an NCAA standard in her debut in outdoor track & field in the 200m after crossing the line in 23.91 seconds. She secured first overall in the event at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational and established a new school record, which had stood since 2017. Additionally, Asoburuenwu registered a first-place finish in the 100m after posting a time of 11.98 seconds, which was the third-fastest in program history. Both times currently rank first in the Conference Carolinas and she is second in NCAA II in the 200m and fourth in the 100m.
A senior thrower from Newark, Ohio, Keck established her first NCAA Division II standard of the outdoor season in the hammer throw. She claimed first place at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational following her toss of 53.00m on her second attempt. Keck is one of two athletes in the country to reach the NCAA Provisional mark and holds the second-best distance in all of NCAA Division II this year.
