Laila Anderson of Mount Olive Repeats as Women's Basketball Freshman of the Month
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Laila Anderson of Mount Olive has been selected as the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Month for women's basketball for February. She also won the award in November and January.
A 5-foot-5 freshman guard, Anderson averaged 18.8 points, 3.5 steals, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while starting all six games to finish the regular season. She registered three 20-point performances while shooting 45.6 percent (41-of-90) from the field and 15-of-30 from beyond the arc.
A native of Burlington, North Carolina, Anderson scored 25 points on 9-of-17 shooting with two rebounds and six steals against Barton on Feb .1. The following week, she dropped 24 points on 8-of-16 attempts, including five-of-six from three-point range with three rebounds at Chowan. On Feb. 11, Anderson produced another 24-point performance on 8-of-15 shooting with six rebounds and four steals. Anderson was named Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year.
