Thrilling First Day at 2023 Conference Carolinas Tennis Championships

FLORENCE, S.C. - It was a thrilling first day at the 2023 Conference Carolinas Tennis Championships on Friday, April 23 at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center. 

The day commenced with the Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Championship first round. In the first matches of the day, fifth-seeded Barton secured a 4-1 victory over eighth-seeded North Greenville to advance to the quarterfinals against fourth-seeded Belmont Abbey. In the other first-round matchup, seventh-seeded Francis Marion collected a thrilling 4-3 win over sixth-seeded Emmanuel to move on to face third-seeded Mount Olive in the quarterfinals. 

In the Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Championship opening round, eighth-seeded North Greenville emerged with a 4-3 win over fifth-seeded Emmanuel to earn a spot in the quarterfinals against fourth-seeded Lees-McRae. In the other first-round match, sixth-seeded Mount Olive picked up a 4-3 win over seventh-seeded Converse to advance to the quarterfinals against third-seeded Barton. 

Both of the higher seeds advanced in the 2023 Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Championship quarterfinals with fourth-seeded Belmont Abbey besting fifth-seeded Barton, 4-1, while third-seeded Mount Olive garnered a 4-1 win over seventh-seeded Francis Marion. 

Sixth-seeded Mount Olive picked up an upset win over rival and third-seeded Barton, 4-1, in the Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Championship quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. Fourth-seeded Lees-McRae fashioned a 4-1 win over eighth-seeded North Greenville to advance to the semifinals. 

Due to threat of incoming inclement weather on Saturday, April 22 in the Florence area, the match times were adjusted with the Women's Tennis Championship semifinals getting underway at 8 a.m. Top-seeded Erskine will take on fourth-seeded Belmont Abbey, while second-seeded Lees-McRae will face off against third-seeded Mount Olive. 

The Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Championship semifinals are now set to start at approximately 10 a.m. with top-seeded Francis Marion facing fourth-seeded Lees-McRae and second-seeded Belmont Abbey taking on sixth-seeded Mount Olive.
