FLORENCE, S.C. - Second-seeded Belmont Abbey picked up its second straight Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Championship title with a 4-1 win in the final over top-seeded Francis Marion on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center.
Belmont Abbey with its championship win earns Conference Carolinas' automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship. The NCAA will unveil the full field for the championship at 8 p.m. on Monday, April 24, on NCAA.com.
Due to inclement weather the day before, the 2023 Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Championship final day featured semifinals and the final. The two semifinals began at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning with Francis Marion besting fourth-seeded Lees-McRae, 4-1, and Belmont Abbey collecting a 4-0 win over sixth-seeded Mount Olive to advance to the final.
The final commenced with Belmont Abbey securing the doubles points with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. With the point already clinched, No. 1 doubles was left unfinished.
In singles, Francis Marion's Martin Barbera won at No. 2, but a win by Nelson Stafford at No. 3, a win by Andres Golindano at No. 5 and a win by tournament Most Valuable Player Alex Turner at No. 6 allowed the Crusaders to garner the 4-1 championship-clinching team win.
