GREENVILLE, S.C. –  After the first round of the 2023 Conference Carolinas Men’s Golf Championship at The Preserve at Verdae in Greenville, South Carolina, Erskine sits atop the leaderboard with an opening round 291 while freshman Tom Bastow holds the individual lead at three-under-par for the Flying Fleet.

Bastow finished the par-72, 6,898-yard course with a tournament-best five birdies and 13 pars. He also leads the tournament in par 4 scoring at two-under and is tied with teammate Laurenz Miefels in par 5 scoring at three-under. Jack Conklin of Barton had the lone eagle on the day while the course yielded 82 birdies on the day and played to an average score of 78.7. 

The Flying Fleet, at three-over for the round, have an eight stroke lead over Belmont Abbey and Emmanuel who each shot 299. Barton is fourth with a 301 while Mount Olive rounds out the top five with a 304. Bastow has a four shot lead in the individual standings ahead of Pablo Riveiro of Emmanuel and Meifels of Erskine at 71 (-1).

The second round of the Championship will begin at 9:30 a.m. with groups going off the first and 10th tees.
