Barton Claims 2023 Conference Carolinas Men’s Golf Championship Crown

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Barton claimed the program’s third Conference Carolinas Men’s Golf Championship trophy, first since 2009, with a final round 297 to win the 2023 event by 17 strokes at The Preserve at Verdae in Greenville, South Carolina.
Tom Bastow of Erskine finished as the wire-to-wire individual medalist after he posted a final round 75 to finish the 54-hole tournament with a three-under 213 (67-71-75). Ryan Jahr of Barton fired the low round on Tuesday with a 70 to finish second with a 218 (75-73-70).
Bastow finished with 12 birdies, tied for the tournament lead with Harrison Wierse and Mitchell Soma of Barton while Jake Conklin of Barton led the field with 37 pars. Seven different student-athletes recorded an eagle in the event.
The Bulldogs, who claimed the automatic bid to the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional, finished the three-day tournament with an 884 (301-286-297). Erskine was runner-up with a 901 (291-304-306) while Mount Olive climbed up to third with a 905 (304-303-298).
