Conference Carolinas Unveils 2023 Men’s Lacrosse All-Conference Honors

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The 2023 Conference Carolinas men’s lacrosse all-conference honors were released on Wednesday, April 26. 

The all-conference awards were chosen by the league’s head coaches. 
 


Junior attack Davis McCulley of Belmont Abbey was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2023. A native of Victoria, British Columbia, McCulley led the Crusaders with 36 goals and 49 points as he added 13 assists. He has scored at least two points in all 13 games he played this season and put 74 percent of his 90 shots on goal. He ranks fifth in the league in goals and seventh in points in 2023.

Thomas Sullivan of Belmont Abbey became the first player in league history to repeat as men’s lacrosse Defensive Player of the Year. A junior from North Babylon, New York, Sullivan led the league in goals against average (9.45), save percentage (.582) and ranks third in saves per game at 13.08. He helped The Abbey allow the fewest goals this season (127) and the largest goal differential at 2.8. 

A native of Havre de Grace, Maryland, Mikey Sweigart of Belmont Abbey was named Freshman of the Year. Playing attack for the Crusaders, Swigart tallied at least one point in all but two of the 13 contests he played in with a season-high six on four goals and two assists against Newberry on Feb. 11. He is third on the team with 27 points with 17 goals and 10 assists this season. 

In his 12th year at the helm, Chris Barrett of Belmont Abbey was named Coach of the Year for the third time (2012, 17). He led the Crusaders to a perfect conference record (6-0) and a 10-3 overall mark which includes a win over then No. 18 ranked Colorado Mesa on Feb. 25. He led Belmont Abbey to its third straight regular-season title and the top seed in the conference tournament which the Crusaders have won the past two seasons.
