Megan Matsil of Francis Marion and Madison Walter of King Earn Softball Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Megan Matsil of Francis Marion and Madison Walter of King were selected as the Conference Carolinas weekly award winners for softball for the week ending April 23.
Matsil was selected as the Player of the Week, while Walter earned Pitcher of the Week accolades.
A senior playing second base for the Patriots, Matsil hit an outstanding .667 (8-for-12) in four games with five runs scored and nine RBIs, a double, a triple and two home runs. The Indian Trail, North Carolina native slugged 1.417 in a 3-1 week for Francis Marion. In the lone loss on the week, an 8-6 defeat at UNC Pembroke on April 18, Matsil had her best game as she went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, one run scored and two RBIs. She had at least two RBIs, one hit and a run scored in each game and has a current 18-game hit streak and has reached base safely 29 games.
A senior right-hander from Lebanon, Pennsylvania, Walter went 3-0 with a 0.67 ERA with three complete games for the Tornado with 12 strikeouts and three walks. She allowed two runs on 12 hits on the week and held the opponent to a .156 average. She tossed back-to-back three-hit shutouts against Mount Olive and UNC Pembroke on April 20 and 21, respectively. She had seven strikeouts in the win over the Braves. In her other win on the week, against Lees-McRae on April 18, she allowed two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks in seven innings.
