Barton Wins Thriller to Claim First-Ever Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Championship Title

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Fourth-seeded Barton outscored second-seeded North Greenville 8-3 in the second half to capture its first-ever Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Championship title on Saturday, April 29, 2023, with a thrilling 9-8 win at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex on the University of Mount Olive campus.
Trailing 5-1 at the halftime break, Barton was able to get within two goals of the Crusaders after three quarters by netting three in the frame to trail 6-4 entering the fourth and final quarter. North Greenville's Thomas Cecere garnered North Greenville a 7-4 lead advantage early in the fourth quarter, but Barton scored the next four goals to lead 8-7 with 6:05 remaining in the contest. The lead was Barton's first of the contest.
North Greenville evened things up shortly thereafter at 8-8 with 4:46 to play, but Logan Wheeler scored what proved to be the championship-clinching goal for Barton with 55 seconds remaining.
Mark Crawford led Barton with three goals in the game, while Cecere had three goals for the Crusaders. Barton goalie Alexander Stewart made 10 huge saves in the Barton victory.
