Mount Olive Sweeps Conference Carolinas Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship Titles

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Mount Olive men’s and women’s track and field programs each captured their ninth consecutive Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championship and 11th in 12 seasons as the 2023 Championships concluded on Saturday afternoon at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
 


On the women’s side, the Trojans were led by back-to-back Conference Carolinas Women’s Field Athlete of the Year, Mary Brigid Keck, and Women’s Track Athlete of the Year, Jaylin Reeves. Keck finished with a women’s field athlete-best 28 points in the championship as she won the shot put and the hammer throw and placed second in the discus throw. Reeves tied with Conference Carolinas Women’s Track & Field Freshman of the Year Ruth Spijker of Converse for the most points on the track with 20 as she won both the 100m and 200m and was the leadoff leg of the second-place women’s 4x100m relay. Spijker won both the 800m and the 1500m for the Valkyries. 

On the men’s side, Joshua Faison paced the Trojans as the senior thrower won the shot put and the discus throw and placed eighth in the hammer throw for a men’s field championship-best 21 points. Terrique Webb of North Greenville was named Conference Carolinas Men’s Track & Field Freshman of the Year after he won the long jump with an NCAA Division II provisional mark and helped the Crusaders’ 4x400m relay team to a third place finish. The Conference Carolinas Men’s Track Athlete of the Year was Deshawn Owens of Barton who won both the 800m and 1500m and ran on the teams 4x400m relay. 

Mount Olive head coach Earl Graves was named men’s Coach of the Year for the second straight season while he earned the women’s honor for a third consecutive year.

The Trojan women won the title with 206 team points while Converse finished second with 127 and Southern Wesleyan placed third with 89 points. On the men’s side, Mount Olive tallied 171.50 points to edge UNC Pembroke with 165. North Greenville placed third with 95 points.
