One Record, Six Standards Hit on Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championships First Day

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – On the first day of the 2023 Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, one record fell and six student-athletes recorded NCAA Division II Provisional marks.
 
The lone records to be broken on the day all came in the women’s long jump where Mycherie Onwuzuruike of Southern Wesleyan won the event with a jump of 6.16m which is a meet and stadium record, ties the Conference Carolinas all-time mark and is an NCAA provisional mark.

Mary Brigid Keck hit the provisional mark in the women’s hammer throw (54.45m), Tayvon Callahan did so in the men’s 100m hurdles (4.21), Terrique Webb hit the mark in the long jump (7.36m) and both Luke Thierfelder (61.11) and Calvin Fernandez (59.73) each hit the provisional mark in the men’s javelin throw.

Mount Olive leads the women’s standings through six events with 54 points while Converse is second with 29 points and Southern Wesleyan is third with 28 points. In the men’s standings, North Greenville leads the way with 44 points while UNC Pembroke is second with 39 and Belmont Abbey is third with 35 points.
 
The final day of the 2023 Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championships gets underway on Saturday, April 29 at 10 a.m. with women’s discus and men’s and women’s triple jump. The track events begin at 12 p.m. with the women’s 4x100m relay.
