Lauren Hilbourn of UNC Pembroke and Jenna Walling of Francis Marion Earn Softball Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Lauren Hilbourn of UNC Pembroke and Jenna Walling of Francis Marion were selected as the Conference Carolinas weekly award winners for softball for the week ending April 2.
Hilbourn was selected as the Player of the Week, while Walling earned Pitcher of the Week accolades for the second time this season.
A senior outfielder from Chadbourn, North Carolina, Hilbourn helped the Braves to a 4-2 record in six conference games on the week as she batted .625 with 10 hits in 16 at-bats with eight runs scored and 11 RBIs. She slugged 1.688 with four home runs, two triples and a double. She had at least two hits in four games and scored and drove in a run in each contest. In a 10-9 loss to Barton she wanted 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBIs. In a sweep of Converse Hilbourn went 4-for-6 with a home run, a triple, two runs scored and three RBIs.
Walling, a freshman right-handed pitcher from Johns Island, South Carolina, went 2-0 on the week with a .50 ERA as she allowed one run on three hits over 14 innings. In a 4-1 win over Belmont Abbey she struck out six and walked one in a complete-game with one run on two hits. In the 14-0 victory over Chowan she compiled a complete-game shutout with one hit, four walks and 11 strikeouts. She limited the opponents to a .065 batting average on the week.
