Grayson Buckner of Lees-McRae Named Softball Freshman of the Month
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Grayson Buckner of Lees-McRae has been selected as the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Month for softball for March.
In 16 March games, Buckner hit .551 (27-for-49) and slugged .816 with 15 runs scored, 11 driven in, three home runs, two doubles and one triple. She also struck out eight batters in nine innings in the circle for the Bobcats.
A native of Elkview, West Virginia, Buckner played primarily at second base during the month and had at least two hits in 10 contests and ended March on a five-game hitting streak with 13 hits in 19 at-bats. She wrapped the month with her best games as she went 6-for-8 in a sweep of Erskine with five runs scored and one RBI. She also was a perfect 2-for-2 against North Greenville as she scored once, drove in two runs and had a pair of walks. She currently ranks third in the league in average at .482 and fourth in slugging percentage (.776).
