Oriana Izarra of Mount Olive Named Women's Tennis Freshman of the Month
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Oriana Izarra of Mount Olive has been selected as the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Month for women's tennis for March.
A native of Valencia, Venezuela, Izarra was 5-1 in singles play and 5-1 in doubles action in the month and was named Conference Carolinas women’s tennis Player of the Week on March 22. Izarra also was the Freshman of the Month in October.
In singles action, she played in the No. 2 and No. 3 slot in March, while posting a 2-0 mark in the second position. Izarra delivered a 6-0, 6-2 win against Carley Symons of West Virginia Wesleyan on March 9 before posting a 6-1, 6-2 win in the second singles position versus Julie Martincova of Francis Marion. Izarra and senior Ingrid Montserrat are currently on a five-match winning streak while going a perfect 4-0 in conference doubles.
