Conference Carolinas Sees Seven Student-Athletes Named NFCA All-Region

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region teams were announced this week and Conference Carolinas had seven student-athletes recognized in the southeast region. 

Francis Marion and King each had a pair of student-athletes honored while Emmanuel, Mount Olive and North Greenville each had one honoree.

Madison Walter and Jessica Campbell represented King on the first team. Walter, a first-team All-Conference pitcher this season earned All-Region honors after leading the league with a 1.91 ERA in 124.2 innings. The senior from Lebanon, Pennsylvania enters regional play with a 14-5 record with 13 complete games, four saves and 88 strikeouts against 30 walks. Campbell earned first team All-Conference honors as an outfielder and earned the same All-Region recognition as she finished third in the league in hitting with a .468 average and a league-best 87 hits. A junior from Graysville, Tennessee, Campbell tallied 11 home runs with eight doubles, five triples and drove in 44 runs. She also scored 68 times for the Tornado. The duo led King to the 2023 Conference Carolinas regular season title. 

Conference Carolinas Player of the Year, Megan Matsil, and first team All-Conference shortstop Makayla Cuthbertson represented Francis Marion with Cuthbertson earning first team All-Region honors at shortstop while Matsil earned second team recognition at second base. Cuthbertson, a junior from Indian Trail, North Carolina, is currently hitting .433 with a 1.145 on-base plus slugging mark as she drove in 47 runs and scored a league-leading 75 times with 10 doubles, eight triples and three home runs. She finished third in the league with 27 stolen bases and has been caught just once in 2023. Matsil is fourth in the conference in hitting at .450 with 73 hits in 53 games this season. The senior from Indian Trail, North Carolina has driven in 42 runs and scored 50 times with 14 doubles, six home runs and one triple. The duo helped lead the Patriots to the 2023 Conference Carolinas tournament championship and a berth into the NCAA Division II national tournament.

Courtlynn Cooney, a junior from Mount Olive, earned first team All-Region honors as an outfielder for the Trojans. A native of Mechanicsville, Maryland, Cooney leads the league in hitting with a .503 average with 40 runs scored and 13 RBIs. A first team All-Conference performer, Cooney has two doubles and two triples this season and led the league with 36 stolen bases in 42 attempts. In 145 plate appearances this season she struck out just nine times.
Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Year, Maddie Edwards, earned second team All-Region honors. A junior from Lakeland, Florida, Edwards finished the season 17-5 with a 2.20 ERA in 152.2 innings with 19 complete games and five shutouts. She held the opponent to a .193 batting average with 141 strikeouts against 34 walks in 2023.

A sophomore from Indian Land, South Carolina, Lexi Wilkinson of North Greenville earned second team All-Region honors as an outfielder. A first team All-Conference outfielder for the Crusaders, Wilkinson finished the season with a .491 average, second in the league, and struck out just eight times in 163 at-bats. She scored 53 runs and finished second in the league with 80 hits. She drove in 17 runs with seven doubles and one triple while also going 28-for-32 on the bases.
