Conference Carolinas Has 18 Student-Athletes Named NCBWA All-Region
GREENVILLE, S.C. - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced the 2023 All-Region teams earlier this week and Conference Carolinas had 18 student-athletes named to the Southeast first and second team.
Conference Carolinas accounted for more than half of the 34 student-athletes honored including 10 of the 17 named to the first team.
North Greenville led all region programs with seven selections while Erskine was second in the region with four honorees. Mount Olive had two student-athletes named while Barton, Belmont Abbey, UNC Pembroke, King and Emmanuel each had one player on the list.
North Greenville had five first team selections led by catcher John Michael Faile, the NCAA Division II career RBI leader, second team All-Conference Carolinas catcher and Conference Carolinas All-Defensive team honoree in 2023. First team All-Conference Carolinas outfielders Marek Chlup and Pat Monteith, second team All-Conference utility player David Lewis and first team All-Conference starting pitcher Reece Fields also earned first team All-Region honors. They also had two second team honorees in shortstop Jalen Vasquez, second team All-Conference, and first team All-Conference relief pitcher Michael Rodriguez.
Conference Carolinas Player of the Year Dale Francis, Jr. led Erskine first team all-region honorees at first base while Ashby Smith earned the honors at second base. Flying Fleet designated hitter Christian Rivera received first team honors as did relief pitcher Johnny Hummel. All four also earned first team All-Conference Carolinas honors this season.
Tanner Halvorson, the Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Year and first team All-Conference selection, earned first team all-region honors for Barton.
Belmont Abbey catcher Garret Browder (first team All-Conference), UNC Pembroke outfielder Christian Jayne (first team All-Conference), Mount Olive outfielder Dylan Jeffries (second team All-Conference, All-Defensive team CF), teammate Jack Casbarro (first team All-Conference, All-Defensive Team 2B), who earned utility honors, King starting pitcher Drew Moore (first team All-Conference) and Emmanuel relief pitcher Tyler Mayfield (second team All-Conference) each earned second team all-region recognition.
