Eight Individuals, One Relay to Represent Conference Carolinas at NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships

PUEBLO, Colo.– The 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships begin on Thursday, May 25 at the Neta & Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colorado and eight Conference Carolinas student-athletes and one relay from three institutions will compete across eight different events.

Mount Olive led the way with five individuals and one relay qualifying for the event while Belmont Abbey qualified its first men’s and women’s student-athletes with two individuals set to compete and Southern Wesleyan qualified one student-athlete. 
 
Mount Olive has three women and two men competing individually as well as the women’s 4x100m relay team. Channie Jefferson leads the way for the Trojans as she is ranked sixth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.36. Mary Brigid Keck ranks 11th in the hammer throw with a mark of 58.08m and Jaylin Reeves is 22nd in the 100m with a time of 11.59. Reeves and Jefferson will be joined by Jamesha Howell and Jaiden Moody on the 4x100m relay team which ranked 13th with a time of 45.83. On the men’s side, Joshua Faison ranks fourth in the discus throw with a mark of 56.05m and Justen Burnette is 10th in the 200m with a time of 20.73.

For the first time in program history, Belmont Abbey is sending student-athletes to the track & field national championships as Luke Thierfelder and Isabelle Flores each qualified in 2023. Flores ranks 16th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.31 while Thierfelder is 14th in the javelin throw with a mark of 64.59m.

Mycherie Onwuzuruike, a 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field All-American, will look to claim her second honor of the season for Southern Wesleyan as she ranks sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.16m. 

The meet will be live streamed here. The stream will begin at 6:45 p.m. ET on Thursday, May 25, at 7:25 p.m. ET on Friday, May 26 and at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 27.
