John Michael Faile of North Greenville and Tanner Halvorson of Barton Named Baseball Weekly Honorees
GREENVILLE, S.C. – John Michael Faile of North Greenville and Tanner Halvorson of Barton were selected as the Conference Carolinas weekly award winners for baseball for the week ending April 29.
Faile was selected as the Player of the Week, while Halvorson earned Pitcher of the Week accolades.
A senior catcher from Boiling Springs, South Carolina, Faile hit .450 over five games and slugged 1.100 with a .560 on-base percentage. He tallied four doubles and three home runs while scoring six times and driving in 11 to break the NCAA Division II RBI record with 317 in his illustrious career. His week was highlighted by a 4-for-4 game in a 15-0 victory over Southern Wesleyan in which he scored three times and drove in seven with one double and two home runs. He also walked four times on the week.
Halvorson, a junior left-handed pitcher from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, set the Barton single-season record for wins with 10 and complete games with nine. He improved to 10-2 on the mound this season as he struck out 10 without a walk in a one-run complete-game victory over Chowan, 7-1, on Thursday, April 27. At the plate, Halvorson hit .500 over four games with an .857 slugging percentage and a .632 on-base percentage. He scored eight times and drove in four with two doubles and a home run.
