Conference Carolinas Qualifiers Prepared for NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships

PUEBLO, Colo.– The 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships begin on Thursday, May 25 at the Neta & Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colorado and eight Conference Carolinas student-athletes and one relay from three institutions will compete across eight different events.
Mount Olive led the way with five individuals and one relay qualifying for the event while Belmont Abbey qualified its first men's and women's student-athletes with two individuals set to compete and Southern Wesleyan qualified one student-athlete.
Mary Brigid Keck of Mount Olive will kick off the championships for Conference Carolinas in the women's hammer throw on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. ET. She will be the ninth thrower in the first flight and is seeded 11th with a season-best mark of 58.08m.
Mycherie Onwuzuruike, a 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field All-American, will look to claim her second honor of the season for Southern Wesleyan as she ranks sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.16m. She also competes on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. She will be the seventh jumper in the second flight.
The Mount Olive women's 4x100m relay team will get the track events started at 6:50 p.m. on Thursday. The quartet of Channie Jefferson, Jaylin Reeves, Jamesha Howell and Jaiden Moody will run in lane eight in the first heat as they are seeded 13th with a time of 45.83.
Reeves, who is ranked 22nd in the 100m with a time of 11.59 will compete individually in the women's 100m at 8:10 p.m. in lane seven of the first heat. The day concludes with Jefferson (sixth, 59.36) and Isabelle Flores of Belmont Abbey (16th, 1:00.31) competing in the women's 400m hurdles at 9:40 p.m. Jefferson is in lane six of heat one while Flores is in lane four of heat two.
Another Trojan student-athlete, Josh Faison, will kick off day two on Friday, May 26 at 7 p.m. He is in flight two of the men's discus throw and is the eighth thrower in the flight. He entered the competition as the fourth seed with a mark of 56.05m.
Shortly after, his teammate, Justin Burnette, will compete in the men's 200m at 7:45 p.m. The 10th seed with a time of 20.73, Burnette will run in lane two of the second heat.
On Saturday, May 27, Luke Thierfelder will represent Belmont Abbey in the men's javelin where he is ranked 14th with a mark of 64.59m. He will compete as the eighth thrower in the first flight.
Saturday also features event finals on the track with the women's 4x100m relay getting things started at 7:10 p.m. The women's 100m finals are at 8:35 p.m. with the women's 400m hurdles scheduled for 9:20 p.m. The men's 200m final would wrap the event for Conference Carolinas at 9:55 p.m.
