Conference Carolinas Places 17 on ABCA/Rawlings All-Southeast Region Teams

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The 2023 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-Region Teams and Regional Players of the Year have been announced in all eight regions and Conference Carolinas had a region-best 17 student-athletes earn Southeast Region recognition. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division II All-America Committee.

North Greenville led all programs with six honorees while Erskine led all region teams with four first team selections. Belmont Abbey had two selections while Barton, Francis Marion, King, Mount Olive and UNC Pembroke each had one student-athlete on the list.

Conference Carolinas had 10-of-17 first-team selections led by 2023 Conference Carolinas Player of the Year Dale Francis, Jr. of Erskine who was named first-team at first base. Flying Fleet teammates Ashby Smith (second base), Christian Rivera (designated hitter) and Johnny Hummel (relief pitcher) also earned first team honors. The 2023 Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Year, Tanner Halvorson of Barton, was a first team selection as were Pat Monteith (outfield) and Davis Lewis (utility) for North Greenville and Garrett Browder (catcher) and Ben Ferguson (infielder) of Belmont Abbey.

Seven other student-athletes earned second-team recognition in John Michael Faile of North Greenville (catcher), Jalen Vasquez of North Greenville (shortstop), outfielders Will Hardee (Francis Marion) and Marek Chlup (North Greenville), utility player Jack Casbarro (Mount Olive) and starting pitchers Drew Moore (King) and Reece Fields (North Greenville).

ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First-Team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-Americans will be announced on Friday, June 2. The ABCA Region All-Defensive teams for all divisions will be announced on Monday, June 19. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams for all divisions will be announced on Wednesday, June 21.

The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and High School. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
