Conference Carolinas Places Four on IWLCA Senior All-Star Teams
SPARKS, Md. - The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has announced the rosters for the 2023 Senior All-Star games for Division I, II, and III and four Conference Carolinas student-athletes have been named to the teams.
The players selected in each Division have been divided into two teams: North and South. The Senior All-Star games will be held on Tierney Field at USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland on Saturday, June 3, 2023. The Division II teams will play the first game at 10:00 am ET, the Division III game will follow at 12:15 pm, and the Division I teams will cap off the event with their game at 2:30 pm. Admission for all three games is free of charge.
Riley D’Andrea of Belmont Abbey was named to the North team while Brenna Everette of Converse and Caroline Abbott and Meagan Maxwell of Mount Olive were all named to the South team.
A USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American honorable mention and first team All-Conference selection, D’Andrea scored 72 goals and dished out 37 assists this season for a league-best 109 points, 5.74 per contest. A senior from Farmingdale, New York, D’Andrea also collected 24 ground balls, caused seven turnovers and won two draw controls. She put 77 percent of her 120 shots on goal, scored seven goals in a game twice this season and dished out a season-high seven assists in a win over Lees-McRae this year. A three-time all-conference performer, D’Andrea became just the third Crusader to tally more than 100 points in a season.
A graduate student from Mechanicsville, Virginia, Everette finished second on the team with 66 points on 46 goals and 20 assists for the Valkyries. She put 83 percent of her shots on goal and garnered 44 draw controls with 24 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers. She was a third-team All-Conference attack in 2023.
Maxwell played attack for the Trojans and the graduate student from Hamburg, New York, helped lead Mount Olive to a second straight Conference Carolinas regular-season and tournament title. She finished third on the team with 58 points on 25 goals and a team-leading 33 assists. She put 83 percent of her 60 shots on goal and had 13 caused turnovers, 15 ground balls and two draw controls. She was also a third-team All-Conference performer this season.
A senior defender from Fallston, Maryland, Abbott led a Trojan defense that permitted a league-low 155 goals on the season and caused nearly 10 turnovers per contest. She was also a third-team All-Conference selection.
