Conference Carolinas Duo Named CSC Men’s At-Large Academic All-America®
GREENVILLE, S.C. - The 2022-23 Academic All-America® men's at-large teams, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom and Eric George of Chowan and Chance Urban of Mount Olive earned the honor for Conference Carolinas.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes at-large honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. In the At-Large program, nominations are limited to five nominees per gender per institution. The sports that are eligible for nomination include women's beach volleyball, women's bowling, women's crew/rowing, men's and women's fencing, women's field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's rifle, men's and women's skiing, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo and men's wrestling. A junior midfielder from Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada, George earned first team Academic All-America® honors. A first team All-Conference Carolinas selection, George finished tied for the team and league lead with 55 goals and 82 points as he also tallied 27 assists, tied for third most in Conference Carolinas this season. He also led Chowan with 18 caused turnovers and collected 46 ground balls this season. In the classroom, he maintained a 3.96 GPA as a sport management major.
Urban, a senior from Abingdon, Maryland, posted an incredible 3.99 GPA as an accounting major to earn third team Academic All-America® recognition. Urban scored 10 goals and dished out five assists for 15 points for Mount Olive. The midfielder also had 12 ground balls this season and helped the Trojans to the Conference Carolinas semifinals.
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Division II Academic All-America® program.
