Mount Olive Selected by Peers as Conference Carolinas Sports Medicine Staff of the Year
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Mount Olive has been chosen by its peers as the 2022-23 Sports Medicine Staff of the Year in Conference Carolinas.
The 2022-23 Mount Olive sports medicine staff was composed of Assistant Athletic Trainer Alex Davisson and Athletic Trainer Randy Pridgen. Davisson has been named the Interim Director of Sports Medicine at Mount Olive with the start of the 2023-24 academic year.
“Being an athletic trainer in collegiate athletics is not easy by any stretch of the imagination,” Mount Olive Assistant Director of Athletics/Compliance Coordinator/SWA Kristen Gurley said. “We are very thankful for the hard work, time and dedication that Alex and Randy have put into our student-athletes as well as the successes of Trojan athletics. This year our two certified athletic trainers were in a daunting situation being significantly understaffed, and they were tasked with the responsibility of providing care for 850 student-athletes and 24 teams. The Sports Medicine staff within an athletic department is paramount in the student-athlete’s achievements and team successes. Our athletic trainers are a big part of a student-athlete’s routine, helping the student-athletes avoid injuries and help them balance the demands of being both a student and athlete. We would also like to thank the Goldsboro Physical Therapy Staff for assisting our athletic trainers and our student-athletes return to the field/court/mat/track in a timely manner. This relationship has proven to be of benefit to our staff athletic trainers as well as our student-athletes.”
The Sports Medicine Staff of the Year was voted on by the Athletic Trainers Committee (all member institution head athletic trainers) in Conference Carolinas.
“This is very well-deserved recognition for the Mount Olive sports medicine staff,” Conference Carolinas Commissioner Chris Colvin said. “The athletic trainers and sports medicine staffs in Conference Carolinas are second-to-none. In addition to congratulating Mount Olive on this special honor, I also want to take the time to just say thank you to all of our athletic trainers and sports medicine staffs in Conference Carolinas. Their efforts are first-class and nothing could happen without their dedication and support to our student-athletes and member institutions.”
