Conference Carolinas Places Over 1,200 Student-Athletes on 2022-23 D2 ADA Academic Achievement Awards List
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Division 2 Athletics Directors Association (D2 ADA) announced the 2022-23 recipients of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Awards and 1,286 Conference Carolinas student-athletes were recognized. The Academic Achievement Awards, in its 16th year, is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level.
The 1,286 Conference Carolinas student-athletes ranked as the fifth-most of all NCAA Division II conferences. Belmont Abbey led Conference Carolinas institutions with 193 student-athletes being recognized while Emmanuel added 168. Barton was third in the league with 158 student-athletes while Mount Olive (144) and King (117) each had more than 100 student-athletes recognized.
Lees-McRae, North Greenville and Converse each had 77 student-athletes honored while Erskine (74), UNC Pembroke (72), Chowan (68) and Francis Marion (61) were also recognized.
In total, there were a record breaking 19,646 student-athletes from 196 institutions recognized
for the 2022-23 Academic Achievement Awards. This is the most student-athletes being
recognized since the inception of the awards program.
Since the inception of the awards program in 2007-08, there has been a total of
147,622 student-athlete nominees recognized for their academic achievements at the Division II
level.
In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the athletics director of the Division II institution must be a current dues-paying member of the D2 ADA. Also, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.
