Conference Carolinas to Celebrate Membership in NCAA Division II Over the Course of the 2023-24 Academic Year
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Conference Carolinas will join in celebrating 50 years of NCAA Division II in numerous ways over the course of the 2023-24 academic year.
Conference Carolinas originally joined NCAA Division II in the 1993-94 academic year as a dual member in both the NCAA and the NAIA. The conference earned full NCAA Division II membership status in the 1995-96 academic year. The 1995-96 academic year was also Conference Carolinas’ first academic year of full competition in NCAA championship play.
As part of the celebration over the course of the 2023-24 academic year, Conference Carolinas will focus on telling some of its unique stories from its time in NCAA Division II.
Conference Carolinas will collaborate with its members to identify some of the historical moments over the course of its time in NCAA Division II through its Body, Mind and Soul features series and special videos. In addition, Conference Carolinas will highlight its national championships, while also showcasing its current and former student-athletes.
NCAA Division II was founded Aug. 6, 1973, when NCAA members voted to reorganize into three divisions at a Special Convention. When the split occurred, 193 schools in 13 conferences chose to become founding Division II members.

Conference Carolinas has a rich tradition in roots that dates back to its inception on Dec. 6, 1930. The NCAA Division II athletics conference presently has member schools located in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Member institutions for the 2023-24 academic year are Barton, Belmont Abbey, Chowan, Converse, Emmanuel, Erskine, Francis Marion, King, Lees-McRae, Mount Olive, UNC Pembroke, North Greenville, Southern Wesleyan and Young Harris.
