KJ Jones II of Emmanuel Selected as Men’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the Southeast Region by D2 CCA

CLEVELAND – KJ Jones II of Emmanuel has been chosen as the 2022-23 Men’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the Southeast Region by the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA).
 
“This is an incredibly well-deserved honor for KJ,” Conference Carolinas Commissioner Chris Colvin said. “KJ has put together one of the best careers in the history of Conference Carolinas. His accolades on the court are second-to-none, but it’s his efforts in the classroom and in all areas of the student-athlete experience that truly make him such an amazing representative for Emmanuel, Conference Carolinas and all of NCAA Division II.”
 
Jones, a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-American, D2 CCA All-American and the Conference Carolinas Player of the Year and tournament MVP, led Emmanuel to the 2023 Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Men’s Basketball Championship title and an NCAA Division II tournament appearance. He led all of NCAA Division II in points per game (26.2) and was fourth in total points (761) in the 2022-23 season.
 
Jones also finished the year seventh in Conference Carolinas in rebounding at 7.2 per game. The Atlanta native shot at a 50.5 percent (214-for-424) clip and ranked second in the league in free throw percentage (.868) and seventh in 3-point percentage at 41.7 percent (58-for-139). He was also eighth in the league in assists per game (3.5) and seventh in steals at 1.7 per contest.
 
The 6-foot-6 guard enters the 2023-24 season owning a 3.88 grade-point average as a Business Administration major who hopes to attend law school. Jones, who is also minoring in Psychology, was the 2022-23 men’s basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year in Conference Carolinas.
 
A senior in the 2023-24 season, Jones has averaged 23.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game over four seasons with 2,246 career points. He has shot .482 from the field in his career with a .868 mark from the charity stripe
 
Conference offices were permitted to submit one male and one female nominee for the overall awards. Upon receipt of all nominees, voting was conducted by the Commissioners within each of the following regions – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, Southeast, South Central and West – to select the regional winners.
