Offensive Player of the Week
Alexis Scarpinato, Young Harris
A sophomore midfielder from Kennesaw, Georgia, Alexis Scarpinato of Young Harris scored all three goals last week for the Mountain Lions.
In Young Harris’ 1-1 tie at Mars Hill on Sept. 13, Scarpinato netted the game-tying goal in the 81st minute. Scarpinato scored twice in the second half to lead Young Harris to its win over Emmanuel with a 2-1 victory on Saturday, Sept. 16. The win was the first women's soccer conference victory for Young Harris since joining Conference Carolinas.
Scarpinato is tied for second in Conference Carolinas with four goals on the 2023 season. Her honor marks the first weekly award for a Young Harris student-athlete since joining Conference Carolinas.
Defensive Player of the Week
Savannah Mellon, Converse
A sophomore defender from York, South Carolina, Savannah Mellon of Converse logged all 180 minutes defensively in a week in which the Valkyries went undefeated.
Mellon helped lead Converse to a 1-0 win over Erskine on Sept. 13. Mellon and the Valkyries did not allow the Flying Fleet to take one shot in the match. In Converse’s 1-1 tie with Belmont Abbey, Mellon and the Valkyries were able to withstand a strong offensive effort from the Crusaders to preserve the positive result.
