Women’s Golfer of the Week

Mara Martinez, Emmanuel

A sophomore from Albacete, Spain, Mara Martinez was the top finisher for Emmanuel at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Preview hosted by Lee University at Cleveland Country Club on Sept. 18-19. 

Martinez finished the 54-hole event with a 226. On the par-72, 6,206-yard course, Martinez followed an opening round 89 with a 77 in rounds two and three. She averaged 81 strokes per round.

Men’s Golfer of the Week

Lee Carew, Belmont Abbey

A sophomore from Orpington, England, Lee Carew led Belmont Abbey to a fifth-place team finish at the Griffin Invitational hosted by St. Leo at the Country Club of Petersburg in Petersburg, Virginia on Sept. 18-19.

Carew earned his second career top-10 finish by finishing fourth with a 3-under par total of 213. He carded one of the best rounds of his career with a four-under par 68. He also added a one-under par 71 and rounded out the tournament with a 74. He was one of five players to finish under par for the tournament, was the top finisher among Conference Carolinas schools competing at the tournament and his 71 stroke average was the best in the league this week.
