Conference Carolinas Tuesday Weekly Award Winners

  • Offensive Player of the Week
    Mercy Bell, UNC Pembroke

    A sophomore forward from Jacksonville, North Carolina, Mercy Bell of UNC Pembroke finished UNC Pembroke’s two games last week with four goals. 

    Bell opened last week by scoring all three UNC Pembroke goals in their league match at Belmont Abbey. It was her second hat trick of the 2023 season. Bell also scored a goal in UNC Pembroke’s 3-3 conference tie with Mount Olive at home on Sept. 23. 

    Bell presently leads Conference Carolinas in league matches with seven goals in four games played. 

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Haleigh Holland, North Greenville

    A sophomore goalkeeper from Vestavia Hills, Alabama, Haleigh Holland of North Greenville picked up two shutout wins last week. 

    Holland first made three saves in not allowing a goal in North Greenville’s strong 3-0 region non-conference victory over Lincoln Memorial on Sept. 20. She faced nine shots overall. Holland followed the Lincoln Memorial victory by saving two shots en route to securing the clean sheet between the pipes in North Greenville’s 1-0 conference win over Converse at home on Saturday, Sept. 23. The North Greenville defense limited Converse to just five shots overall in the match. 

    Holland’s two shutouts on the season is tied for the league lead in the category.

  • Offensive Player of the Week
    Jamie Lapsley, Young Harris

    A junior forward from Stirling, Scotland, Jamie Lapsley of Young Harris led all in Conference Carolinas last week with four goals. 

    Lapsley netted two of Young Harris’ five goals in its 5-1 league win over Erskine on Sept. 19 before capturing two more goals in the 7-0 conference win for the Mountain Lions over Southern Wesleyan on Sept. 23. 

    Lapsley currently leads all in Conference Carolinas men’s soccer with five goals on the season. 

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Tim Baerwalde, Converse

    A sophomore goalkeeper from Frankfurt, Germany, Tim Baerwalde of Converse helped secure two league wins for Converse this past week. 

    Baerwalde first collected the clean sheet in saving two shots in Converse’s 3-0 conference victory over King at home on Sept. 20. The Valkyries limited King to just four shots overall in the match. In Converse’s 5-1 conference road win over North Greenville on Sept. 23, Baerwalde made three saves. The Converse defense held North Greenville to just six shots as a team in the match. 

    Baerwalde currently leads Conference Carolinas in goals against average (.857) and shutouts (three).
