Conference Carolinas Announces Additional SAAC Programming

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Conference Carolinas Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will hold three additional virtual programs this fall while also holding two initiatives to aid the communities in which our 14 institutions call home. 

The SAAC announced two professional development webinars and a second installment in the mental health series as well as the continuation of the virtual Diversity and Inclusion 5K and a canned food drive.

The first installment in the virtual professional development series is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. and will focus on resume building. Attendees will learn tips and tricks to build the perfect resume. Registration is available here.

Dr. Shea Fontana, D.O. will lead the second episode of the mental health series on Monday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. with a presentation on recognizing the signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Shea Fontana, MD is the Associate Program Director for the Upstate psychiatry residency program and a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville. She has a Certificate of Additional Training in Sports Psychiatry awarded by the International Society for Sports Psychiatry (ISSP). She focuses on providing care to athletes, college students and adults utilizing a combination of lifestyle modifications (sleep hygiene, nutrition, and physical activity), psychotherapy and psychopharmacology. The second session in the professional development series will focus on social media presence and the effect your social media presence can have on your future. Register to reserve your spot in the virtual session on Monday, Oct., 30 at 7 p.m. here

The SAAC will also be sponsoring a month-long canned food drive on individual campuses throughout the conference. The school with the most donations will receive a special prize at the end of the academic year. The drive will go from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31.

In its sixth year, the virtual diversity and inclusion 5K run/walk is open to anyone and is a way to bring the conference together to champion change in diversity and inclusion on our campuses and in the community. More information, including how to register, will be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
