Conference Carolinas Tuesday Weekly Award Winners

  • Track Athlete of the Week
    Christopher Kirksey, Mount Olive

    A junior, Christopher Kirksey of Mount Olive registered a pair of podium finishes, including a victory in the 400 meters this past weekend while competing at the Finn Pincus Invitational. The Richmond, Virginia native produced a personal record in the 400 meters after crossing the line with a time of 49.66 seconds, which is the fastest time in Conference Carolinas. 

    Kirksey also placed second overall in the triple jump with a distance of 13.27 meters (43-6.50 meters) to reach the league qualifying mark.

    Field Athlete of the Week
    Kamden Johnson, Mount Olive

    A native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Kamden Johnson eclipsed the Mount Olive record and reached the NCAA standard in the high jump after clearing 2.06 meters (6-9.00 feet) to claim first place at the Finn Pincus Invitational. The senior currently ranks 20th in Division II in the event while pacing the Southeast Region and Conference Carolinas this indoor campaign. 

    Additionally, Johnson improved his conference qualifying mark in the long jump with a distance of 6.96 meters (22-10.00 feet) to earn a first-place finish. He still holds the top mark in the league and sits second in the region in the long jump.

    Johnson has now claimed back-to-back weekly honors.

  • Track Athlete of the Week
    Isabelle Flores, Belmont Abbey

    A junior from Orange Park, Florida, Isabelle Flores of Belmont Abbey posted the top time of the season in Conference Carolinas in the 400m by running a converted time of 59.36 (actual 58.58) to win the Carolina Challenge event. 

    Flores also ran a the 60m where she finished 32nd (8.10). The time is currently in the top-20 in the event in Conference Carolinas. 

    Field Athlete of the Week
    JoAnn Smiling, North Greenville

    A senior from Columbia, South Carolina, JoAnn Smiling of North Greenville captured weekly honors for the second straight week. 

    Smiling bested her distance of just a week ago at the Carolina Challenge this past Saturday with a distance of 12.01 meters in the triple jump. The mark in the triple jump is the 11th-best distance in Division II so far this indoor season.

  • Wrestler of the Week
    Hamilton Cooper, Coker

    A senior from Comer, Georgia, Hamilton Cooper propelled Coker to a thrilling 24-23 team conference win over Limestone.

    In the 285-pound match, Cooper pinned Caleb Melton from Limestone in two minutes and 55 seconds to secure the team win for Coker.
