Conference Carolinas Monday Weekly Award Winners

  • Player of the Week
    Edgerrin Austin, Erskine 

    A senior outside hitter from Joliet, Illinois, Edgerrin Austin of Erskine averaged an impressive 6.4 points, 5.3 kills and 2.3 digs per set in two wins last week for the Flying Fleet. He hit .516 in the two matches. 

    In Erskine’s sweep of Tusculum, Austin had 16 kills, six digs and two service aces. He finished the match hitting .500. Austin followed up that performance by hitting .571 to go along with five kills, three digs and two aces in a sweep of Benedict. 

    Austin presently leads all in Conference Carolinas with 4.1 kills per set. He is fourth in hitting percentage at .386. 

    Specialist of the Week
    Seth Deppe, Barton

    A junior setter from Mukwonago, Wisconsin, Seth Deppe of Barton averaged 10.0 assists and 3.2 digs per set in two wins for Barton last week. 

    In Barton’s three-set win over Eastern Mennonite, Deppe collected a double-double with 29 assists and 12 digs. He followed that up by posting 31 assists and seven digs in a sweep of Virginia Wesleyan. 

    Deppe, who surpassed 1,000 assists last week, is fifth in Conference Carolinas with 8.61 assists per set.

    Peyton Nation, Belmont Abbey

    A junior forward from Springboro, Ohio, Peyton Nation of Belmont Abbey averaged a double-double last week with 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in two league wins last week. She shot 75 percent (12-of-16) from the field in the two games and also averaged 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game. 

    Nation opened last week by recording her second double-double of the season with 19 points and 12 rebounds in a conference win over Mount Olive. She also had five assists, four steals and one block. Nation closed out her week by scoring 12 points to go along with nine rebounds and two assists in a league victory over Southern Wesleyan. 

    Nation has now claimed weekly honors three times in the 2023-24 season. 

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Cate Schieber, Belmont Abbey

    A sophomore guard from New Albany, Ohio, Cate Schieber of Belmont Abbey averaged five steals per game in two wins last week. She also averaged 15.5 points, 2.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game. 

    Schieber was particularly strong defensively in Belmont Abbey’s conference win over Mount Olive, ending her efforts with six steals and a block. She also had five points and two rebounds. She helped Belmont Abbey match a season-best with 17 team steals in the contest. Schieber closed her week by picking up four more steals in a conference win over Southern Wesleyan. She also had 26 points, two rebounds and one assist in the game. She knocked down eight three-pointers in the contest.

    Week 11 (Jan. 29, 2024)

    Player of the Week: Peyton Nation, Belmont Abbey

  • Player of the Week
    Reese McDonald, Barton

    A senior guard from Raleigh, North Carolina, Reese McDonald of Barton averaged 27.5 points, 7.0 assists, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game in leading the Bulldogs to a pair of Conference Carolinas victories. McDonald shot 66 percent (19-of-29) from the field on the week. 

    In Barton’s league win over rival Mount Olive, McDonald finished his efforts with 27 points, seven assists, six rebounds, six steals and one block. In stuffing the stat sheet, McDonald also made 10 of his 15 field goal attempts (67 percent) in the victory. McDonald posted 28 points, seven assists, seven rebounds, two blocks and one steal in a conference win over Lees-McRae.

    McDonald leads Conference Carolinas in total assists with 108 and is currently second in assists per game at 5.4. He is also in the top-15 in the conference in scoring with 15.2 points per game. 

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Kenny Turner, King

    A junior forward from Coral Springs, Florida, Kenny Turner of King finished with seven blocks and a steal in three games last week for the Tornado. He averaged 15.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game in the three games. 

    In King’s league win over Southern Wesleyan to start the week, Turner picked up his first double-double on the week with 18 points and 10 rebounds. He also had two blocks. Turner added one block and one steal to go along with his second double-double of the week with 12 points and 10 rebounds in King’s conference win over Erskine. Turner closed the week with 14 rebounds and a season-high four blocks against conference foe Mount Olive. He also had 16 points and an assist.
