TIGERVILLE, S.C./MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Belmont Abbey College and King University advanced to the Developmental Men’s Soccer Championship final with wins on Monday.
Belmont Abbey and King will travel to Florence, South Carolina for the championship hosted by Francis Marion University at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 28.
King won the North Greenville University preliminary site on penalty kicks over North Greenville. North Greenville tied the contest late to send the game to overtime. Following two scoreless extra sessions, the match went to penalty kicks. King eventually edged the Trailblazers 7-6 to advance to next week’s championship.
Earlier in the day, North Greenville defeated Converse University 1-0 with an 11th-minute goal. King and Young Harris College then went to double overtime even at one. The Tornado scored in the final two minutes to take the contest 2-1. Converse capped their day, defeating Young Harris 3-0, scoring goals in the ninth, 31st and 36th minutes.
Belmont Abbey defeated Barton 1-0 in the University of Mount Olive preliminary site final with a second-half goal.
Earlier in the day at Mount Olive, Barton topped the host Trojans 1-0 with a goal in the 37th minute. Belmont Abbey then topped Francis Marion 1-0 with a goal in the 22nd minute. Mount Olive and Francis Marion then ended overtime scoreless. Mount Olive edged the Trojans 3-1 on penalty kicks.
