GREENVILLE, S.C. – The top seeds advanced to the semifinals of Conference Carolinas Women’s Soccer Championship with quarterfinal wins on Sunday afternoon. Third seed Francis Marion University and fourth seed Belmont Abbey College earned spots in the league’s final four.
#3 Francis Marion 4, #6 Young Harris 1
Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year Kristina Syragakis scored two minutes into the contest to give the Patriots the lead. However, Young Harris came back and evened the score with a Justice Taylor Colburn goal in the 21st minute. Syragakis responded nine minutes later with another goal to give the lead back to Francis Marion. The Patriots added goals from JG Garon and Tehya Dave in the 44th and 53rd minutes to take the contest 4-1.
#4 Belmont Abbey 3, #5 Converse 0
Belmont Abbey controlled play in the first half, but the score remained scoreless until the 55th minute when Gabriela Enciso found the back of the net to give Belmont Abbey a 1-0 lead. The Crusaders added goals in the 81st minute from Anna Richard and 84th minute from Sabrina Cunha in the 84th minute to take the contest 3-0.
Belmont Abbey and Francis Marion advance to semifinal matches at Bryan Park in Browns Summit, North Carolina on Friday. Belmont Abbey will face top seed Lees-McRae College at 11:00 a.m. with Francis Marion taking on second seed UNC Pembroke at 1:45 p.m.
