BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – The Conference Carolinas Men’s Soccer Championship saw an early goal from Francis Marion University standup following a superb defensive effort against top seed Chowan University for a 1-0 victory.
Third seed, Francis Marion wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard as John Osadolor found the back of the net in the third minute. Juan Salazar Lopez played a ball to Osadolor who ripped a left footed shot into the lower right corner to give the Patriots the advantage. The Francis Marion defense then locked down, only allowing two shots in the opening 45 minutes, both coming in the final minutes of the half.
The Patriot defense didn’t allow a Chowan shot in the second half, to post their second shutout in as many contests. Chowan made a push late in the second half, but the Patriot defense stood tall to preserve the shutout and take the 1-0 victory.
With the win, Francis Marion wins their first Conference Carolinas crown and earns an automatic bit into the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship. This marks the fourth NCAA Tournament appearance for the Patriots and first since 2019.
The NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championship selection show is at 6:30 p.m. ET on Monday, November 18 on NCAA.com. The first round of the tournament is scheduled for Friday, November 22.
