UNC Pembroke's Kimaiyo, Southern Wesleyan's O'Neill to run at NCAA Division II National Championships

GREENVILLE, S.C. –
Two Conference Carolinas cross country runners have qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships the NCAA announced on Monday. Ronan O’Neill of Southern Wesleyan University and Moureen Kimaiyo of UNC Pembroke both qualified.

O'Neill won the individual title at the Conference Carolinas Men's Cross Country Championship and was named the league's runner of the year for the second straight year. He finished ninth at the NCAA Southeast Regional with a 10k time of 29:58.8.

Kimaiyo was the individual champion at the Conference Carolinas Women's Cross Country Championship and was named runner of the year. She covered the 6k distance in 21:31.7 to finish fifth at the NCAA Southeast Regional.

O’Neill competed at the national championships a season ago, finishing 124th with a 10k time of 31:26.8. This will be the first appearance for Kimaiyo at the national championships.

In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals had to qualify in their respective NCAA regional competitions that were held this past weekend.

Thirty-four teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top three, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 24 teams. Ten additional teams were selected at-large. A minimum of 24 additional individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. The list of advancing teams and individuals is outlined below.

The championships will be held Saturday, November 23 at Arcade Creek Cross Country Course in Sacramento, California. Sacramento Sports Commission and California Collegiate Athletic Association will serve as the host. The men’s race will begin at 1:00 p.m. Eastern, followed by the women’s race at 2:15 p.m. Eastern.

A live webstream of the championships will occur on www.NCAA.com from 1:00 p.m. Eastern until the conclusion of the awards ceremony.
