Men’s Basketball Developmental Championship Preview
GREENVILLE, S.C.– The Conference Carolinas men’s basketball developmental championship will take place on Monday, Feb. 5 and Monday, Feb. 12 on the campuses of Barton, Converse, Erskine and King.
The event, which is a unique championship opportunity for developmental teams within Conference Carolinas, will consist of a preliminary round at Barton, Converse, Erskine and King on Feb. 5 with the champion from each site meeting for the semifinals and finals slated for Feb. 12 at Converse.
Each preliminary round site will feature three teams in a round-robin format. Any team that goes 2-0 will advance to Spartanburg for the championship final. If all teams are 1-1, a tiebreaker will be used to determine the advancing team.
The Barton bracket will feature the host Bulldogs, Francis Marion and Mount Olive. Barton and Mount Olive will face off in the first game at 12 p.m. with Barton to face Francis Marion at 2 p.m. and the Trojans and Patriots to play at 4 p.m. The bracket winner will face the King bracket champion on Feb. 12 at 2 p.m.
The King bracket will feature Lees-McRae, Southern Wesleyan and the host Tornado. King and Lees-McRae will play first at 12 p.m. with SWU and King to play at 2 p.m. The Bobcats and Warriors will wrap up the day at 4 p.m.
Erskine has a pair of Erskine teams in the tournament and will host Emmanuel. The Erskine teams will play first at 11 a.m. before Erskine A meets Emmanuel at 1 p.m. and Erskine B plays the Lions at 3 p.m. The bracket champion will face the Converse bracket champion on Feb. 12 at 12 p.m.
The Converse bracket features a pair of teams from Belmont Abbey and the host Valkyries. Converse will face Belmont Abbey A in game one at 12 p.m. with Belmont Abbey B to face Converse at 2 p.m. The two Belmont Abbey teams will face off in the final contest at 4 p.m.
The championship final will be held at Converse on Monday, Feb. 12 with a 4 p.m. tip.

Earlier this fall Conference Carolinas announced that a developmental championship will be held in men’s soccer, men’s wrestling, men’s and women’s basketball, men's volleyball and baseball. The developmental teams will be composed of student-athletes that have either not competed at the varsity level in 2023-24 or have competed sparingly at the varsity level by the time of the championship.
