Conference Carolinas Tuesday Weekly Award Winners

  • Track Athlete of the Week
    Katherine Thompson, Erskine

    A senior from Woodruff, South Carolina, Katherine Thompson of Erskine set a school record in the 800m with a time of 2:22.01 at the JDL Team Challenge.

    Thompson finished second in the event, but claimed the best time in Conference Carolinas this season in the event. It’s also a top-15 time in the region. 

    Field Athlete of the Week
    Adrienne Crawford, Mount Olive

    A junior thrower from Middlesboro, Kentucky, Adrienne Crawford of Mount Olive delivered a second-place finish with a distance of 16.05 meters (52-8.00 feet) in the weight throw at the DIII Pre-Nationals Invitational over the weekend. She also placed ninth in the shot put with a toss of 11.18 meters (36-8.25 feet).

    Crawford enters the Conference Carolinas Championship with the top distance in the Southeast Region in the weight throw while ranking third in the league in the shot put.

  • Track Athlete of the Week
    Demarco Hernandez, Emmanuel

    A senior from Commerce, Georgia, Demarco Hernandez of Emmanuel ran 8:15.13 for the 3000m on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the David Hemery Invitational at Boston University. This was a school record for Emmanuel in the event, besting the previous time by 5 seconds. 

    The time also places Hernandez as the fastest 3000m runner in the conference. 

    Field Athlete of the Week
    Sigursteinn Asgeirsson, Mount Olive

    A freshman from Borgasetriô, Iceland, Sigursteinn Asgeirsson of Mount Olive posted a second-place finish in the shot put following a toss of 15.64 meters (51-3.75 feet) on his final attempt while competing at the DIII Pre-Nationals Invitational.

    He enters the indoor league championship next weekend with the top distance in the event at 15.74 meters (51-7.75), which was set at the 2024 VMI Invitational in late January.

  • Player of the Week
    Addi Johnson, Southern Wesleyan

    A senior shortstop from Williamston, South Carolina, Addi Johnson of Southern Wesleyan finished her six games last week hitting .500 (9-of-18) with 13 RBIs and 10 runs scored. Johnson owned an impressive 1.111 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .609. 

    Johnson finished the six games with five extra-base hits on three home runs and two doubles. Johnson currently leads Conference Carolinas in RBIs (16) and runs scored (16). 

    Pitcher of the Week
    Olivia Haag, Southern Wesleyan

    A sophomore pitcher from Buford, Georgia, Olivia Haag of Southern Wesleyan held her opponents to a .192 batting average in two appearances last week. She owned a 1.50 earned-run average in dealing two complete games. 

    Haag struck 16 in the two games. Haag leads Conference Carolinas currently with a 1.17 earned-run average.

  • Player of the Week
    Nick Dietsch, Emmanuel

    A junior catcher from Mission Viejo, California, Nick Dietsch of Emmanuel hit .462 (6-of-13) with 10 RBIs and five runs scored in five appearances last week. Dietsch slugged 1.462 in the five games and owned an on-base percentage of .619. 

    Dietsch finished his efforts on the week with five of his six hits going for extra bases on four home runs and one double.

    Dietsch leads Conference Carolinas with six home runs. He is second in Conference Carolinas in OPS at 1.748. 

    Pitcher of the Week
    Reece Fields, North Greenville

    A graduate student from West Columbia, South Carolina, Reece Fields was exceptional in his start in the first game of a three-game sweep of USC Beaufort. 

    Fields allowed no runs over his six innings on the hill. He allowed just two singles and one walk. In addition, Fields fanned nine. 

    Fields leads Conference Carolinas with 25 strikeouts.

  • Athlete of the Week
    Kristin Fary, Belmont Abbey

    A senior base/tumbler from Fort Mill, South Carolina, Kristin Fary of Belmont Abbey was part of a strong season-opening performance in the win over Mars Hill this past Saturday. In the compulsory event, she competed in acro, pyramid and toss with an 8.95, 9.3 and 9.1. She also competed in acro heat 3 with a 9.55 out of 10 where she competed as a base for a high hand in hand press down to straddle. 

    Additionally, Fary competed in all three heats of the pyramid event with a 9.95, 9.75, and 9.75 and competed as a tosser and catcher in those heats. She’s also in toss heat 2 and 3 with an 8.8/9.3 and 9/9.3 where she competed as a back spot for an Arabian salto open 180. Fary also competed in the team event with a 96.54/101.49 as a back spot in tosses, tosser and catcher in pyramids and a base in acros.

    Specialist of the Week
    Erena Chaples, Belmont Abbey 

    A senior top/tumbler from Independence, Missouri, Erena Chaples of Belmont Abbey competed in Pyramids heat 1 and 2 and received a 9.95 and 9.75 out of 10. She served as a top in both. Chaples competes a shoulder level hand in hand on top of a bridge in heat 1 and a straddle with a 270 flip down in heat 2. 

    In the event, the Crusaders finished 0.55 points from a perfect score in relation to start value. Belmont Abbey also finished one of its highest point totals in a season-opening meet with 264.64 in a win over Mars Hill.

  • Wrestler of the Week
    Trent Mahoney, King

    A redshirt junior from Baton Rouge, Lousiana, Trent Mahoney of King posted a pair of wins in a total time of just more than 3:00 minutes to lead the Tornado a Conference Carolinas Men’s Wrestling Championship berth.

    Mahoney started last week with a 35 second pin of Nicholas Krauss of Lincoln Memorial University. He closed the week on a high note, pinning the nation’s top-ranked wrestler at 165 pounds, David Hunsberger of Lander. It took Mahoney 2:32 to pin Hunsberger this past Friday night.
