Erena Chaples of Belmont Abbey Earns NCATA Weekly Honors

GREENVILLE, S.C. -  The National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) announced its week one awards and Conference Carolinas student-athlete Erena Chaples of Belmont Abbey was named Specialist of the Week.

A senior top/tumbler from Independence, Missouri, Chaples competed in Pyramids heat 1 and 2 and received a 9.95 and 9.75 out of 10. She served as a top in both. She competes a shoulder level hand in hand on top of a bridge in heat 1 and a straddle with a 270 flip down in heat 2. 

In the event, the Crusaders finished 0.55 points from a perfect score in relation to start value. Belmont Abbey also finished one of its highest point totals in a season-opening meet with 264.64 in a win over Mars Hill.

Chaples was also named Conference Carolinas Specialist of the Week.
