Record-Breaking Friday at Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships

KINGSPORT, Tenn. –  It was a record-breaking third day at the 2024 Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships at the Kingsport Aquatic Center on Friday, Feb. 23, 2024.

Benedetta Pepe Pugliese of UNC Pembroke collected the new championship record in the women's 400 yard IM with a time of 4:24.58 to kick things off in the finals on Friday evening. Efe Ertuzun of King would follow that up by collecting the new Conference Carolinas championship record in the men's 400 yard IM with a time of 3:56.82. 

Converse's Laureen Roussel started Friday by capturing the new Conference Carolinas championship record in the women's 100 yard breastroke with a time of 1:03.84. Roussel would not better her time in the finals, but she would take first in the event with a time of 1:04.21. Isabell Schiller of Emmanuel would shortly thereafter collect the new Conference Carolinas championship record in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 57.07. 

The battle for the 2024 Conference Carolinas Women's Swimming Championship team title is going to go down to the final day with UNC Pembroke's strong Friday allowing them to take the lead in the standings going into the final day on Saturday with 520 points. Emmanuel is right behind with 489 points. In the men's team standings, Emmanuel owns the lead entering the final day with 604 total points. Barton is in second with 441 points.

The fourth and final day of the championships on Saturday will feature preliminaries starting at 10 a.m. The finals will begin at 5 p.m.
