Back-to-Back! UNC Pembroke Captures Second Consecutive Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Championship

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNC Pembroke won the 2024 Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Women’s Basketball Championship for the second straight season. The top-seeded Braves closed out each quarter with runs and pulled away to top third seed Belmont Abbey, 72-51.
Belmont Abbey opened up an early 13-4 lead with an 8-0 run in the middle of the first quarter, but UNC Pembroke responded by scoring the final 12 points of the quarter to take a 16-13 advantage. The Crusaders regained the lead early in the second quarter and held the advantage until late in the stanza when the Braves made a run. UNC Pembroke scored seven of the final nine points to take a 30-28 lead at the break.
Early in the third quarter, the Braves used a 5-0 run to take the lead and scored the final five points of the quarter to take a 50-42 lead into the final 10 minutes. Kelci Adams and the Braves then got hot from three as she drilled a triple to give UNC Pembroke a nine point advantage in the opening minute of the fourth quarter. The Braves then pulled away to take the title, 72-51.
UNC Pembroke shot 51.1 percent from the floor and were led by 25 points and eight rebounds from Kalaya Hall. Adams added 14 points and Lillian Flantos scored 10 points. Abigail Crain led Belmont Abbey with 21 points while Peyton Nation scored 14 points.
UNC Pembroke earned the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Championship. The NCAA selection show is scheduled for Sunday night at 10:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
