Conference Carolinas Tuesday Weekly Award Winners

  • Track Athlete of the Week
    Isabelle Flores - Belmont Abbey

    Flores ran conference-qualifying times in both the 100 and 400 hurdles on Saturday at the 49er Classic. She posted the top time in the league this year in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing in 15.22 seconds. She then bested the NCAA-provisional standard with a 400 meter hurdles time of 1:02.23, also the fastest in the league this season. 

    Field Athlete of the Week
    Haley Kells, Belmont Abbey

    Kells earned a conference qualifying mark in the triple jump this weekend at the 49er Classic. Her mark of 10.87m (35' 8") ranks fifth in Conference Carolinas this season.

    Week 2 (March 19, 2024)

  • Track Athlete of the Week
    Joey Tindale, Erskine

    Tindale won the 10K event at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational with a time of 30:43.22. That is the top time in Conference Carolinas and the region this season. He also broke school record in the event by more than two minutes.

    Field Athlete of the Week
    Orlando Decartes, Belmont Abbey

    Decartes broke his own school record in the high jump with a mark of 2.05m (6'-8.75") at the Charlotte 49er Classic. The mark is also the best in the league this year and is an NCAA-provisional mark by one centimeter.

  • Player of the Week
    Taylor Watford, Francis Marion

    Watford batted .385 in four games, leading the Patriots to four wins, by going 5-for-13 with two runs, a double, two home runs and 12 runs batted in. For the week, she slugged .923 with an on-base percentage of .400 and hit safely in all four games. The senior first baseman had a home run and drove in four in both games of sweep of Lee on March 12 and again drove in four in the opening game win at Chowan on March 16.

    Pitcher of the Week
    Lonna Addison, Lees-McRae

    Addison led Lees-McRae to a 3-1 record last week, sweeping a doubleheader at King and taking a 5-2 win at Mount olive. She went 3-0 in the circle and recorded 38 strikeouts in four appearances on the week. Addison threw a two-hit complete-game shutout in a 2-0 victory at King with a season-high 14 strikeouts. In game two against King, Addison came in relief in the third inning and struck out 10 batters in the 3-2 win over the Tornado. In the two games against King, Addison compiled 24 of 42 outs via strikeout on the day.

    Addison lowered her season ERA to 2.66 after a complete-game win at Mount Olive on Saturday while tallying eight strikeouts in the start. She entered the weekend with the third-most strikeouts in Conference Carolinas with 105 and second in the league in strikeout-to-walk ratio at 5.00.

    Week 7 (March 19, 2024)

    Player of the Week: Taylor Watford, Francis Marion

    Pitcher of the Week: Lonna Addison, Lees-McRae

  • Player of the Week
    Kody O'Connor, UNC Pembroke

    The senior outfielder hit .400 against a pair of top-10 teams in the region. He went 6-for-15 with a .500 on base percentage for the week, with a double, two home runs and eight runs batted in. He also scored five runs for the Braves. He opened the week with a pair of knocks and drove in one in a win over regionally-ranked Wingate. He then helped the Braves take the Conference Carolinas series from the top team in the region and second-ranked team in the country, North Greenville. Over the weekend, O'Connor went 4-for-10 with a pair of home runs and drove in three in the Braves' game two win.

    Pitcher of the Week
    Tanner Halvorson, Barton

    In two starts last week, Halvorson threw two complete game conference victories last week in a 4-1 win over Young Harris on Monday and a 4-2 victory over Belmont Abbey on Sunday. Halvorson struck out 19 batters this past week and pushed his record this year to 6-0 with a 2.57 earned run average and 62 strikeouts. Halvorson, last year's Pitcher of the Year in the league, has a 17-game winning streak dating back to last year. He struck out 11 batters against 11th-ranked Young Harris before striking out eight in a win over Belmont Abbey.

    Week 7 (March 19, 2024)

    Player of the Week: Kody O'Connor, UNC Pembroke

    Pitcher of the Week: Tanner Halvorson, Barton

  • Athlete of the Week
    Kaylin Francavilla, Coker

    Francavilla competed in eight heats and team event this past Saturday night. Her performance was highlighted by a 9.5 out of 10.00 in compulsory pyramid, a 9.50 out 9.80 in inversion pyramid and a 9.50 out of 10.00 in the synchronized pyramids as well as a season high score of an 8.60 out of 9.10 in the Trio Tumbling heat. Throughout the meet, her contributions helped the team to pick up wins in the acro event and toss event against Limestone and Mars Hill. She also helped the Cobras to tie in the pyramid event against Limestone beating Mars Hill.

    Specialist of the Week
    Lauren Pipes, Belmont Abbey

    In the pyramid event, Pipes is a top in the synchronized pyramid heat that scored a 9.75 out of 10.00 where she competes a straddle with a 270 flip down. She also tops the open heat and scored a 9.85 out of 10.00 where she competes a pike to a 360 flip off.
