GASTONIA, N.C. – The first day of the 2024 Conference Carolinas/Great Midwest Bowling Championships saw the top four women’s teams and top three men’s teams advance to their respective winner’s brackets.
WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
Walsh earned the top seed and defeated eighth seed Barton 4-1 in the opening round. Third seed Belmont Abbey topped sixth seed Ursuline 4-2 while second seed Lincoln Memorial defeated seventh seed Thomas More 4-2. The closest match of the day was fourth seed Kentucky Wesleyan defeating fifth seed Emmanuel 4-3.
The semifinals between Kentucky Wesleyan and Walsh and Belmont Abbey and Lincoln Memorial as well as the consolation bracket matches between Barton and Ursuline and Emmanuel and Thomas More are scheduled to start at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
Top seed Kentucky Wesleyan came away with a 4-2 win over sixth seed Barton while third seed Belmont Abbey topped fourth seed Walsh 4-2. Second seed Emmanuel narrowly defeated fifth seed Thomas More 4-3 to round out the day.
The men’s tournament resumes on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with Barton taking on Thomas More, Kentucky Wesleyan facing Walsh and Emmanuel squaring off with Belmont Abbey.
